New Habutton series is called “Honeymoon Days.” I’m around halfway into translating it and 1/3 into the typesetting process. Expect an English version by Friday if all goes well! The gist is that this girl teases her boyfriend for gaining weight and plays with his belly since she likes chubby guys. He tells her if she loves fat so much, why doesn’t she just gain weight herself and play with her own belly. She tells him that she’s tried before like stuffing herself or drinking protein shakes, but nothing worked. Her boyfriend takes her out to a cheap restaurant and they order a ton of food, so he can show her how to “really” eat in order to get fat. Then she starts gaining and enjoys it. The first page is a flash forward into the future to show how big she eventually becomes. Here it is!

I’ll do my best to clarify what I can about this series. While yes, in the first chapter her boyfriend gained some weight, it’s not the focus. It’s mentioned in the second page that he gained 30 kg prior to the comic, and he gains a grand total of 3.4 kg during the chapter itself. The girl, by contrast, gains 15.4 kg, and is shown through the dialogue that she’s way more into it than he is. The boyfriend seems a little self-conscious by comparison, even though he makes a small effort to gain alongside her. On page 1 alone she’s shown sneaking cake during sex (to which her boyfriend explicitly says is something he can’t handle himself), and in the second half of the chapter she’s shown to get all excited with her new weight. She also gets snacks after sex while her boyfriend is resting. I do think that as someone here said, it’s kinda clear she’s going to turn into the bigger one. Being alongside a fat guy and still looking absolutely huge by comparison is probably what Habutton is going for, compared to his previous works where most of the love interests are skinny lanky men and the girls are usually gaining unintentionally.

Back to working on the Hayami retranslation, now starting Chapter 9. I've included a draft of page 1, but the translation is subject to change when I go through the revision process at the end. Shorter chapter compared to the others time so I hope to get it done soon! Habutton really likes using "笑" at the end of lines, which is the Japanese equivalent of "lol" (it quite literally just means "laugh"). The most natural translation for dialogue I can think of is "haha," so I've been using that alongside with "pfft" at the beginning of lines for some variation for a while now. Do you guys still think the sheer amount of "hahas" is still unnatural? Any suggestions on other ways to portray laughter would be appreciated, so I can keep it varied and natural. He usually uses 笑 at the end of teasing lines (like with senpai and Hayami), or at the end of gossipy lines (like the two girls in this page).

First Habutton post in months and it's another chapter of the series no one cares about. Is he like... completely done with all his older stories? It seems like all he's done recently is start new WG stories while leaving Aoba and Sage-chan out to dry.
