Will say I love the old trope of a girl blaming the washing machine for clothes not fitting. Fits right in with the oblivious/denial thing I love, especially when the girl is whiny and bratty, but in a cute overspoiled way, not bitchy.

When surreptitiously feeding her fatter, one can simply replace clothes with larger sizes, fix the scale and confuse them with some mystical gobbledygook about carb-loading and other quasi-nutritional talk and they simply accept it.
